Report on the Ministry of Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo
by Rev. Michael Jenkins
Rev. Willie Jordan hosted Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo in Chicago on Sunday, July 29th. Approximately 1500 people jammed each of the two services 9 am and again at 11 am. Rev. Dr. Maxine Walker, is the owner and publisher of Spiritual Perspectives magazine. She supported Dr. Willie Jordan's church from the time it was 20 members in a small house to it's brand new 7 million dollar facility with 8500 members and 3000 in attendance on any given Sunday.
Dr. Jordan also welcomed Pastor Max Samples, who is a white evangelist from the Southern Baptist Convention and head of the evangelism board for the Southern Baptist Convention in Illinois. Pastor Samples gave a powerful sermon, then Rev. Jenkins was asked to introduce Archbishop Milingo.
The Archbishop presented a most powerful testimony of the "bond" African Americans and Africans share centering on the sacrifice of Christians who through their faith were able to overcome injustice and slavery. He cried out that we must hear the voices of the ancestors who sank in slave ships on their way to America. For their voices must be heard and felt, and they can only be felt through you! It was through the practice of the gospel that the chains in America and eventually through America the chains in Africa could be broken. Now we are called to complete the cycle and return back to the original purpose for which Adam and Eve were called. That is to create and establish blessed families. He testified that Father and Mother Moon had revealed this to him through his study of Divine Principle and that the time has come that all families must return to the original covenant with God. That is the convenant of the blessing.
He then professed his love for the Holy Father and the Roman Catholic Church but that at the same time I must cry out at the injustice that is going on this day. There are 120,000 priests, most of whom are qualified spiritual leaders, that have married and lost their status as spiritual leaders. As a result more than 5000 parishes in America alone remain without a priest. At the same time these priests live with the deep pain of being separated and not able to receive the Eucharist which is the free gift of grace of Jesus Christ.
Then the Archbishop cried out powerfully that we must bring healing in the last days. Not only healing of the body but also, healing of the soul and spirit, healing of the heart and healing of all relationships, between parents and children, husbands And wives, relatives, races and religions. Then Dr. Jordan called for the congregation to come to the altar and fill the aisles. Then Archbishop Milingo offered prayer. It was a powerful moment. There was a lot of weeping and deep communion with God. I could see how God has prepared the movement for such a time as this.
In the second service, Dr. Chang Shik Yang attended. Rev. Jordan welcomed him as True Parents' representative (with great dignity aJTrue Parents and their representatives are now being announced.) In the second service Dr. Jordan was moved by the spirit to lay on hands on the congregation. With the powerful 200 member (Voices of St. Mark led by Dr. Lonnie Hunter) creating anTrue Parents and their representatives are now being announced.) In the second service Dr. Jordan was moved by the spirit to lay on hands on the congregation. With the powerful 200 member (Voices of St. Mark led by Dr. Lonnie Hunter) creating anJng spiritual atmosphere Dr. Jordan said "Let It Go !!!" as he laid on hands. Again, the movement of the spirit was so strong. (If you review the book of Acts these same phenomena were in abundance at the starting of the church—note: when Bishop ng spiritual atmosphere Dr. Jordan said "Let It Go !!!" as he laid on hands. Again, the movement of the spirit was so strong. (If you review the book of Acts these same phenomena were in abundance at the starting of the church—note: when Bishop J and I showed True Father pictures of Bishop Johnson's healing service Father saw one woman in Kentucky being healed. and said strongly to Bishop Johnson, "YOU MUST KEEP DOING THIS")
Bishop Milingo then prayed. As we closed our eyes you could feel that we were transcending time and history. This was the same upper room of the Pentecost. The same gifts of the spirit were descending upon us. People were not only bringing forward their physical ailments but also their spiritual ones. The feeling of transformation was everywhere transformed. The Archbishop prayed such a sweet prayer for all. Bishop Kim and the Chicago family has made such a deep foundation for this Pentecost with Christianity. Pastor Jordan's brother brought a powerful word from the Lord.
We then went into a meeting with the Chicago Church family members. Bishop Milingo praised the Chung Pyung Lake revival. We have no idea how high the spiritual discipline is in the Unification Church. You don't realize that it is the most comprehensive spiritual development in Christianity. One of the most profound things in Chung Pyung is that every leader must shed his positions and titles and get in the cafeteria line with 4000 others. No pretense, no position, no pride. From Rev. Kwak to the must humble member in the world Father takes everyone through the same discipline. He mentioned that in the past history, individuals could do this and naturally they would become saints. True Parents program however is creating a collective body of "saints" all at once. It's truly an amazing phenomenon.
Theological Dialogue
Dr. Hycel Taylor, ACLC Theologian and executive committee member assembled a group of theologians at his home on Monday afternoon. The Bishop of the United Methodist Church and the current professor of history at one of Chicago's mainline denominational seminaries gathered together to refine and discuss a "strategy" to support Archbishop Milingo. It was a very serious and profound dialogue. They urged that it must not be in opposition to the Catholic church. How can we take the discussion into the public forum? Where does it transcend the Catholic churches in house business and become public domain? Archbishop Milingo answered that his mission given from God is to heal the 120,000 priests that have been lost to the church because they married. He also said that Father Moon's teaching cannot be left out of the discussion because it is the most significant teaching that brings full restoration of the Biblical model of family that God intended at the beginning. It is relevant to all because the blessing can solve divorce which is ripping apart every denomination and society and religion. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Taylor for elevating this battle for the family to the Theological world.
Bishop Kim and Revs. Yukimi and Rich Lemont invited many members of Corpus (Roman Catholic married priests) and other Roman Catholics together for a special dinner meeting with the Archbishop. One Roman Catholic priest, who has 1000 families at two masses on Sunday, gave profound support for the Archbishop. He said that he studied the Archbishop when he was a child growing up in Africa. He is an African hero. He also informed us about an interesting compromise that was made with the Roman Catholic Diocese in Cameroon. One tribe there absolutely refused to allow the church to remain if they did not allow the priests to marry because of strict tribal traditions—the church would be banned. In an unprecedented move—they allowed the priests to marry. Archbishop Milingo was so excited. This priest pledged his support. The temperature is definitely rising!
